How did you find out about the fragrance industry?
I found out about the industry during my first class of the Cosmetics and Fragrance Marketing Program. The class was called History of Beauty and I absolutely fell in love with the idea of the Perfumery. I told my Professor after that first class that I was going to be a perfumer. Here I am!
What made you want to be a perfumer?
I couldn't believe that there was a whole job where you could just create fragrances all day long. I was enthralled! It was so fascinating to me that all the products and perfumes that we touch and use every day, that our grandmothers and mothers have used before us were created by a perfumer. To be able to influence people's everyday lives and experiences were what made me want to be a perfumer. It's one of the greatest gifts that I was ever given!
What are some of your favorite and least favorite scents?
Lily of the valley, hyacinths at Easter, lilacs in the spring, soft leather, a bonfire on a summer night, the beach, suntan lotion, dove soap that reminds me of my Grammy. Least- dimethyl sulfide, old grease, mothballs, old cigarette smoke, E train in the summer...
What are the hardest obstacles you have found when working in perfumery?
REGULATORY, due dates, price, raw material shortage, raw material costs, client expectations.
Kaleigh and Mick Prokop, a husband and wife based out of Hoboken, New Jersey. Guess what? WE LOVE FOOD. And booze, and restaurants, and perfume, music, art, well I think you get the picture. We started this project as a creative outlet and place to share our “sensory experiences”. We both love to cook, trying to use the best ingredients that we can get our hands on. Our style is simple and delicious real food made with quality ingredients.
While you are here you may also find some other things that we like to dabble in. Kaleigh likes to try her hand at all sorts of stuff: knitting, DIY home projects, make-up and all other beauty related things. Mick on the other hand, enjoys pondering astrophysics, watching shows about outer space and conquering The New York Times crossword puzzle.
A taste of Timur Pepper Pure Jungle Essence TM at the American Society of Perfumers annual event
Senior perfumer Jim Krivda (NY) and apprentice perfumer Kaleigh Prokop (NJ) presented MANE specialties to friends and colleagues at the annual dinner hosted by the American Society of Perfumers on November 10th. MANE sponsored the appetizer, a scallop ceviche with mango, cucumbers, peppers, citrus and plantain chips, which was created to complement MANE's Timur Pepper Pure Jungle Essence™ as well as a new mango base, created by Kaleigh. Jim and Kaleigh also presented a men's FF spotlighting both the Timur Pepper and mango notes, which Jim created especially for the event.
